North East Wins in Dramatic Fashion with Walk Off Grand Slam

It came down to one out in the bottom of the 10th inning with the Saints trailing Lakeland CC 7-5. Sophomore catcher Sabatino Dinardo blasted his second grand slam of the week and game winning walk off grand slam to lift the Saints over Lakeland 9-7.

The game was all tied when the 10th frame started. In the top half of the inning Lakeland had bases loaded and no one out before freshman Marcus Gunter got back to back ground balls that were able to keep Lakeland off the board. Lakeland was down to their last strike and it looked like MNE was going to escape the jam before a base hit to left field plated two and gave Lakeland a 7-5 advantage.

In the bottom of the inning Brian Casiano drew a walk to get things started. Brandon Johnston hit a ground ball to the shortstop but LCC was unable to turn the double play. Scott Pierce hit an infield single and with a full count, Jake Bulick drew the walk to load the bases. Sabatino Dinardo took the first pitch he saw and hit a deep fly ball to right center field that went over the fence and gave MNE the 9-5 victory.

Jordan Ransom got the start for the Saints and he pitched 5 strong innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and struck out 4. Joe Grober threw 2 innings of shutout ball in relief, and Marcus Gunter earned coming out of the pen. Gunter allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in three innings.

Scott Pierce had two hits and two RBI's and Sabatino Dinardo had two hits and 4 rbi's. For Dinardo it was his 4th homerun this week and 6th on the year.

The Saints will be in action against Gannon University on Thursday.
