The Mercyhurst North East Saints baseball team swept a pair of Region III contests and the Cougars of Genesee 15-5 and 3-2 to improve to 7-3 in the region.
Game one was a wild one. With the Saints trailing 2-1 in the top of the 6th Adam Gasiorowski hit a 2 RBI single that gave the Saints a 3-2 lead. GCC scored on in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. The Saints exploded for 12 runs in the top of the 7th to blow the game wide open. The Saints has seven hits in the frame including two hits in by Zack Miller.
Zack Miller had a huge day in game one going 5-5 with a double and an rbi. Gasiorowski had 3 hits and 3 rbi's. Drew Delsignore added two doubles and Scott Pierce had a double and two RBI. Marcus Gunter had two hits, a double, and 3 rbi's and Mike Montalbano had two hit to round out the Saints offense.
Nolan Freeman earned the win for MNE. Freeman threw a complete game 5 runs, 4 earned and struck out 5.
In game two Nick Woloschak threw 10 innings to beat Genesee 3-2. The Saints got on the board in the first after Drew Delsignore hit a two out double and Scott Pierce followed that up with an RBI double. Pierce later stole third and scored on a wild throw by the catcher.
Genesee scored two un earned runs in the first and that was all they would get.
The Saints scored the winning run in the top of the 10th after Adam Gasiorowski lead off the frame with a single. Jake Bulick advanced him to second with a sac bunt. Jesse Staudt pinch ran for Gas and was caught trying to advance to third when the ball hit the dirt. Delsignore drew a two out walk and Scott Pierce hit a double that scored Delsignore and gave the Saints the lead.
Woloschak allowed just two unearned runs on 4 hits and struck out 6 in 10 innings of work. Scott Pierce had 3 hits including two doubles and a triple, and Delsignore had two hits including a double.
The Saints improved to 21-17 and 7-3 in Region III. The Saints will finish the series vs Genesee Sunday at 1:00 at Philip D. Hirtzel field on the campus of Mercyhurst North East.
