Saints finish Region III with a Sweep of GCC

Mercyhurst North East beat the Genesee Community College Cougars in dramatic fashion to win game two 5-4. MNE cruised to a 7-1 win in game one. Brian Casiano took a 2-0, two out pitch, over the right fielders head to drive in Malik Madison from 3rd base for the walk off win on Sophomore Day to complete the sweep.

Casiano had two hits and the game winning RBI for MNE. Sabatino Dinardo launched his 11th homerun of the season to give MNE a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 4th. Mike Montalbano had two hits including a double to round out the Saints offense.

Jamie Lauria got the start in game two and threw 7 strong innings allowing two runs on 5 hits and struck out 3. Jimmy Pitzulo pitched the 8th and Marcus Gunter threw the 9th. In both innings Genesee hit the first pitch of the inning for a homerun to tie the game. Gunter got the win in relief.

In game one Jim Solano dominated the Cougars allowing just one run in the first on a wild pitch. After that Solano settled down to shut them out in the final 6 innings striking out 6. Solano earned his 7th win of the season and his second complete game win of the week.

The Saints offense had 5 hits off Genesee starter Hector Gomez. Zack Miller had two hits and an RBI, Drew Delsignore had a hit and 3 RBI and Heath Hildreth had two hits as well.

North East finished the Region III schedule 9-3 and will wait and see what happens in the MCC vs GCC games on Saturday to determine the #1 seed. MNE is now 23-17 and will take on Cuyahoga CC on 4/28 at 5:00 pm.
