3 Former Saints Continue Baseball Career at Mercyhurst University

The Mercyhurst University- North East Campus baseball team is proud to announce that three former Saints will be attending Mercyhurst University next fall to play baseball. Jamie Lauria, Jim Solano and Sabatino Dinardo were three standout players for MNE over the past two seasons.

Lauria, a red shirt junior pitcher, pitched two seasons for MNE after coming back from Tommy John surgery in 2013. Lauria threw in both roles for the Saints as a closer and as a starter. In 2015 Jamie was 2-3 but threw several quality innings. He threw a complete game shutout against Lackawanna CC and also held Florence Darlington Tech to two runs on six hits and lost 2-1.

Jim Solano was a Laker in 2013 before transferring to MNE in the spring of 2014. Solano is the winningest pitcher in North East history with a 15-3 in his career. Solano was a two-time Region III pitcher of the year and finished 2015 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA. Jim had a very impressive walk to strikeout ratio of 16/68.

Sabatino Dinardo was a 2015 early signee of Akron University but due to the loss of the baseball program at Akron Dinardo signed with Mercyhurst. Sabatino had an unprecedented year in 2015. His 15 homeruns was a school record and he also led Region III and finished 11th in the nation. His 57 RBI's was good for 27th in the NJCAA and his .741 slugging percentage was good for 17th.  Not only was he a power hitter but he got it done behind the plate. Dinardo finished 7th in the nation with 16 runners caught stealing and threw out 55% of all base runners attempting to steal.

These three players will join former Saints, junior Cameron Balego, and seniors Joe Gnacinski, Austin Alonge, and Tyler Slepski as the newest members of the Mercyhurst Lakers. The Lakers are coming off their best year as they were the Atlantic Region champions and 2015 College World Series participants.
