The Mercyhurst North East Saints look to rebound after losing in the Region 3 Championship game last season. The Saints won 27 games and had 7 players continue their baseball careers. The Saints return 16 players from last year's roster, 5 of which were All Region selections.
The Saints return some power infielders to the lineup this season. Mike Montalbano, Zack Miller and Pedro Peguero all had good years in 2015. Montalbano hit .327 with 14 doubles and 3 hr's. Zack Miller hit .344 with 11 doubles and Pedro showed some power potential this fall. Returner Ethan Pagley had a great year at the plate in 2015 and will look to mix in at second as well as behind the plate. New comer Luke Baranchak looks to lock down the shortstop position and Joel Cruz will mix in at second as well. Blaze Chamberlain has some big power potential and will add depth at the corners
The outfield has the most depth of all the positions this season. Returners Scott Pierce ,Jesse Staudt, and Brandon Johnston all had good years in 2015. Pierce hit an impressive .390 with a school record 21 doubles and 3 homeruns. Staudt hit .292 before a ruptured appendix ended his season. Johnston adds speed and defensive to the outfield. Redshirt sophomore transfer Keyshawn D'Orso is a big addition to the outfield. D'Orso was a big part of the success in 2014 and will add maturity and power to the outfield. Newcomers Kenny Robinson and Vincent Jacob are very talented and should be great mix in the outfield.
The catching staff is extremely talented this year. Drew Delsignore leads the Saints behind the dish. Delsignore lead the team in average last year hitting .403 with 10 homeruns and 49 rbi, and stole 14 bases. Tom Cannon red-shirted last season due to an arm injury and is 100 percent and looks to have a great year. Brandon Johnston will also see sometime behind the plate as well.
The staff returns 6 pitchers from last years team. Nolan Freeman looks to anchor the staff after coming off and up and down season in 2015. He showed some great ability this fall. Nick Woloschak looks to continue what he started in 2015. Woloschak was 7-2 last season and was 3-1 in Region 3 games. Jordan Ransom had a little bit of a rocky season last year but with experience and hard work will have a bounce back year in 2016. Trent Collins was a redshirt last season and showed some great potential this fall. Joe Grober provided some much needed depth last year in the bullpen and will look to continue to fill that role. Mike Witt got some good experience last season and has showed some signs of really developing this offseason,. New comer Dalton Donachie has been very exciting this fall. He is a hard worker and will be in the mix for a rotation spot. Ismael Mendez has showed some real improvement and will add depth as a left handed arm. Zach Barrett is an athletic arm and will be a great addition to the staff.
