In the second day of their spring break trip, the Saints baseball team picked up wins over St. Clair County CC and Henry Ford CC. The morning contest against St. Clair County CC ended in a final of 7-3, and then in the afternoon contest against Henry Ford CC, the Saints came out on top by a final score of 15-8.
In game one of the day against St. Clair County CC, sophomore Jack Tumulty took the mound for the Saints. Over five innings, he gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out seven on his way to his first win the 2019 campaign. Sophomore Joe Gammon closed the game for the Saints, going two innings, giving up one run while striking out three. Robert Korff went 2-3 in the game, driving in a run, while fellow sophomore Nick Petrolla went 2-2 with an RBI as well.
In the afternoon contest against Henry Ford CC, the bats came alive for the Saints as they were able to tally six extra base hits. Offensively, the Saints were led by freshman Peter Toula who went 2-3 with a double and a triple while driving in four runs. Korey Shoupe and Brandon Scheidemantle each had two RBI's, respectively, while Chris Reilly went 3-5 in the game. Freshman Benny Dettore also came through with a clutch pinch-hit, two-run single. On the mound, sophomore Jacob Harsany got the nod for the Saints. Over four innings, Henry Ford was able to scatter seven hits while plating six runs, two earned, while only allowing two free passes, and striking out seven. Ryan Rapp closed the game for the Saints, throwing three innings, giving up one run and striking out one. With the win, Harsany moves to 1-0 on the season.
With the wins, the Saints move to 4-0 in the young campaign, and will look to continue the hot start on Thursday as they take on Kankakee Community College at 10am.
