Saints Alumni Update

 

Just a quick update on some Saints alumni that are playing at the next level today

 

Cam Balego (Chicago Cubs Organization)

 

Balego was a Saint in 2014, before traveling down I-90 to continue his career at Mercyhurst University where he was a member of the 2015 team that went to the College World Series. After three successful seasons at Mercyhurst, Balego was selected in the 30th round of the 2017 MLB Draft becoming the first former Saint to be drafted. After spending last season with the South Bend Cubs, Balego was optioned at the beginning of the 2019 season to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

 

Tommy Cannon (Allegheny College)

 

Cannon shined for the Saints from 2016-2017 and picked up right where he left off during his first year with the Gators last season. After winning Allegheny College's Male Newcomer of the Year Award, Cannon was also named All-NCAC Honorable Mention. This year, through 20 games, Cannon is hitting .375 with five doubles and two home runs, while driving in 16 runs.

 

Jason Swope (Ashland University)

 

After a great career with the Saints that saw Swope notch over 90 career hits over two seasons, he continued right where he left off at as he entered his first season competing at Ashland University. The Eagles, ranked #6 in this week's national poll, are 27-4, while Swope is hitting .333 with 18 hits, 6 doubles, one triple, and 12 RBI's while also scoring 18 runs.

 

Mike Nuzzo (LaRoche College)

After two seasons in a Saints uniform, Nuzzo traveled to NCAA Division III power, LaRoche College to continue his playing career. Through four appearances for the Redhawks, Nuzzo is yet it to give up a run, while only allowing two hits, and striking out four.

These Former Saints are also seeing success at the next level

2018 OCCAC player of the year and NJCAA All American Luke Baranchak , Kenny Robinson and Nolan Freeman all are playing at Division II power Mercyhurst University,

2017 NJCAA Region III Champion Dalton Donachie at Allegheny College, Pedro Peguero at Lock Haven University

2017 NJCAA Region III CHampion Nate McKenrick at Barton College.
