Saints Prepare for Post Season

The MNE Saints Baseball team concluded their regular season this past weekend and finished with an overall record of 22-18. The Saints are now preparing for Regional play, and will head to Monroe Community College this Friday. Monroe Community College received the top seed in the tournament and will host MNE who is the two seed, and the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, who has acquired the three seed.

Regional play will begin on Friday at 12:00PM as the Saints square of against the University of Connecticut at Avery Point. If the Saints are to win the game, they will play Monroe on Friday evening. If they are to lose, they will play their next game on Saturday morning.

When asked about the upcoming tournament, head coach Jake Marinelli stated that:

"As a group we are confident heading into the weekend. We have had some guys who have been battling injuries and now feel good to go. We have a ton of respect for Monroe and we know what we are going to get with Monroe, which is an extremely well coached and disciplined team."

Despite coming off of a few losses, the Saints have plenty of highlights within their lineup. Padraig O'Shaughnessy posts a team high .353 batting average, and has 7 homeruns and 33 RBI's on the year. Robby Korff is also hitting .331 heading into the post season with 6 homeruns and 32 RBI's. Brandon Scheidemantle has also been solid for the Saints all year, hitting .328 with 15 doubles.

Everyone knows that the post season brings extra pressure and excitement to the game, and when asked about it, Jake Marinelli explained that:

"When it comes to tournament play, the fundamentals are highlighted. If we take care of the fundamentals of the game, then we will give ourselves the best chance at winning this thing."
