Saints Fall in Region Championship

Saints Fall in Region Championship

After losing game one of the Region Championships to the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, the Saints Baseball team came back the next morning to beat Avery Point 12-11 to advance to the region championship game against Monroe Community College.

In their second matchup against Avery Point, MNE was sure to bring the bats. The Saints cranked out 18 hits as a team, with Padraig O'Shaughnessy collecting four of his own, which included two doubles. Korey Shoupe and Nick Petrolla also had productive days at the plate as each contributed three hits apiece.

After coming on in relief of Alex Cardona, who pitched a solid three innings striking out seven, Dan Klase received the win while only giving up one run in five innings pitched.

The Championship game ended with a different result however. With a highly explosive offensive, Monroe scored 12 runs in the first four innings. Nick Petrolla and Dylan Kurcon did all they could offensively to keep the Saints alive as each smacked hits for extra bases which drove in runs. Monroe then tallied three more runs, which put the game out of reach.

The Saints finished the season as the Region III runners up, posting a 23-20 overall record. A Special thanks to all of the Sophomores who will be moving on.
