In 2018, Jake Marinelli’s first season managing the Saints, the team finished with a 22-22 record including a season high 11 straight wins from April 8 through April 21. The Saints compiled an 11-8 record in conference play finishing in third place. Under Marinelli’s direction, the 2018 Saints had four players named to the all OCCAC team, including the conference player of the year and an NJCAA All- American.
Marinelli took over the program from previous head coach Brandon Crum who accepted the head coaching position at Allegheny College.
Marinelli, who hails from Cleveland, OH was a 2015 graduate of Mercyhurst University and a 4 year standout player for the Lakers baseball team.
During his playing career, the Lakers compiled a record of 139-63. During his senior season Marinelli helped lead the Lakers to the programs first ever college World Series appearance in 2015. That year the Lakers ended their season ranked 4th in the country and finished with a 40-11 record.
Immediately following graduation, Marinelli made his coaching debut in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) for the Hornell Dodgers where he served as the teams pitching coach in the summer of 2015.
In the fall of 2015, Marinelli joined the coaching staff at Mercyhurst University where he worked with catchers and the pitching staff and helped guide the Lakers to a 43-14 record and another top 10 finish during the 2016 campaign.
During the 2017 season, the Lakers finished 38-8 as Marinelli helped coach them to their third consecutive top 10 finish.
Throughout Marinelli’s 2 year coaching stint with the Lakers, they had three players selected in the MLB draft, Atlantic regional player of the year, and Atlantic regional pitcher of the year.
The Saints open up their 2019 campaign as they take on Barton College in Wilson, NC on March 3.
