The men's basketball team opened up their 2014-2015 season in winning style by beating Howard Community College 79-71 this past weekend. The Saints were led by Jalen Jackson and Justin Dobbs who had 23 & 22 points to pace the Saints in scoring.
At halftime, the score was evened at 32 while both teams seemed to be playing identical, with HCC shooting 40% in field goals and MNE shooting 41% in field goals, while HCC was 64% from the free throw line and MNE was 66% from the stripe.
It was in the second half that the Saints asserted themselves offensively when they outscored HCC 47-39. The Saints improved their fieldgoal percentage by 21% in the second half and finished when they needed to, to give them the win.
"We turned the ball over a lot, but I was happy to see the guys work through their early season errors and come up with the win," says Coach Gahan. Brandon Wilkins ended the game with 9 boards and 12 points, while Jalen Jackson had 23 points and 5 assists. Justin Dobbs chipped in with his 22 points including 4 three pointers.
The Saints started out their 2014-15 campaign 1-0 and are back in action on wednesday when they take on Butler County Community College on Wednesday at 7:00 at home.
