(Tuesday, 1/13/15) The Saints were back in action on Tuesday evening as they hosting conference opponent Genesee Community College, who came into the game 12-1 in their last 13 games. Despite Genesee shooting 47% on field goals, 63% on 3-pointers, and 80% from the line in the first half, the Saints found a way to keep it close going into the half, only down 41-45.
As the second half got underway, the Saints rallied their way back as the game would see 13 lead changes and a tied score 8 times. Outscoring the GCC Cougars 40-36 in the second half. With the game tied at 81-81. The Saints had a chance to win in regulations as they had the last possession with an open look with the clock running down, only to come up short while Brandon Wilkins went for a tip in as the clock expired to have the ball roll in, and out, sending the game to overtime.
As overtime got underway, the Saints and Cougars battled evenly as the game was tied 87-87 with time running down. Genesee had possession in the final seconds of play as they took a jumper from outside, hitting off the rim to Brandon Wilkins who was fouled on the rebound, since MNE was in the bonus, he went to the line for a 1 and 1. Wilkins nailed the first free throw putting the Saints up 88-87 with 1.5 seconds left on the clock. With smart play, Brandon missed the second on purpose as GCC got the rebound with no time left for an attempt. Individual highlights from the game include Gerrell Williams with a team high 24 points, Johnell Free with 23 points, Brandon Wilkins with 12 points, including a clutch free throw to win the game along with 12 rebounds.
With the win, the Saints move to 8-4 on the season and are back in action on thursday as they travel to Jamestown Community College - Olean.
