Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener

NORTH EAST, Pa- Behind six double digit scorers, the Mercyhurst North East men's basketball team topped the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville in the season opener with a final score of 110-91.

Omar Little Jr. (Williamsport, PA.) led the Saints with 22 points followed by Xavier Sewell (Germantown, MD.) who chipped in 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Both Shequon Lindsey (Meadville, PA) and Justin Vaughan (Raleigh, NC) contributed 14 points apiece.

Sophomores' Johnell Free (Cleveland, OH) and Gerrell Williams (Lorain, OH) rounded out the double digit scorers. Free finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds while Williams added 10 points.

Pitt Titusville's Mark Henry led all scorers with 28 points respectively.

The Saints used a 10-3 run in the opening minutes and did not look back. This helped build a 17 point lead heading into the intermission with the score 63-46.

With a strong showing from the Saints bench, they combined for a third of their first half total. Head Coach David Gahan thought "the bench contributed early on and were a pivotal part in us taking the halftime lead".

The Saints are back in action Tuesday, November 3rdwhen they travel to Cuyahoga Community College for a 6:30 Tip.
