CLEVELAND, Ohio- Xavier Sewell had 18 points and Johnell Free 16 as Mercyhurst North East men's basketball (1-1) fell short in a 71-57 decision on the road at Cuyahoga Community College (1-1) Tuesday evening.
Rice Jones scored a season high 14 points while Larenz Thurman added 13points for Cuyahoga.
In the opening possession, Mercyhurst North East looked poised and composed handling the pressure from Cuyahoga when Omar Little Jr. dished a pass to Shequon Lindsey for an easy layup. This lead did not last long as Cuyahoga trailed only once after being down 2-0 in the opening possession.
At the break, Cuyahoga held an 11 point lead, 35-24.
The Saints opened up the 2nd half strong cutting the deficit to 8 points but were unable to come any closer.
"Shooting 7 for 28 from 3 was the story of the game, we did not make timely shots" says Head Coach David Gahan.
The Saints are on the road again as they travel to the Community College of Beaver County for the Titans Tip-Off Tournament. They will face the Cougars of Columbus State Community College for a 5pm tip.
