NORTH EAST, PA - The Saints embarked on their first season of competition after the lacrosse program took four-year hiatus. The Saints fought valiantly and proud all year long, compromised of a roster hovering around 18 freshman players with injuries throughout the season.
The saints finished without a victory and an overall record of 0-12. The Saints competed against 4 teams that finished in the top 10 of the NJCAA poll, 3 of the Saints other opponents were in the top 10 at some point during the regular season. The saints played 2 teams that went to the final four and the eventual national champions, The Onondaga Lazers.
It was a tall task for any team and especially a first year program. However, there was a lot accomplished for the saints in year one. The Saints started to improve over the year and finished the 2017 campaign with three one goal game losses that could have went either way.
The Saints had two players named WNYAC All-Conference, one player named Honorable-Mention All-Region III, and one player named an NJCAA Academic All-American.
Coach Miccio was quoted on the season saying "It was a learning experience for both our coaching staff and players. We understand it doesn't happen overnight and it is a constant process. I will say that I am so proud of how our kids never quit and stayed focus after a very tough start. We believe that we are doing the right things and that we are just starting to scratch the surface. We return the majority of our players back and are very excited about our incoming freshman class as well. By no means was this year a failure, we look at it as a starting point and a learning experience. We were grateful to have the opportunity to play the schedule that we did, we were humbled at times, and we grew as a family. That is something that these kids and this staff were able to hang their hat on every day. These guys were the start of something that will blossom into very special program. We also are extremely grateful of the support we received from parents, faculty and staff, and our athletic department. It was simply outstanding and full of class and great character."
More information on the award winners and incoming recruiting class will soon follow! The Saints are excited about their 2018 campaign!
