NORTH EAST, PA – Mercyhurst North East men's lacrosse head coach Eric Miccio announced the team's 2018 schedule. "We added three games to play a total of fifteen regular season games. We gained another region opponent and had the opportunity to add two more non-region games. We believe this gives us one of the most diverse schedules in all of Junior College lacrosse. We hope to continue that trend as we go along. We have our hands full to say the least but we wouldn't want to have it any other way." Stated Coach Miccio
The season kicks off for the Saints at the Erie Campus on Sunday February 25th against the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals, the game is slotted for a noon face-off.
The Saints begins its road schedule and region III schedule in Syracuse, NY on Wednesday, February 28th at 4pm, when the Saints will visit Chuck Wilbur Field to face national power Onondaga Lazers. The Lazers are the defending national champion. "We try to emulate that program in a lot of different ways and it is an outstanding opportunity to see where you stack up against the best."
The Saints then travel down to West Virginia to take on the Catamounts of Potomac State College. That game is scheduled for March 3rd on their campus in Keyser, WV under the lights with a 5:30pm start.
The schedule then takes the Saints on the road twice for two non-region tilts during their spring break. The Saints head to Patchogue, NY and take on another national power in the Suffolk County College Sharks. That game will be held on Tuesday, March 6th at 4pm on the campus of St. Joseph's University on Long Island. The Saints will then travel to Cranford, NJ for a mid-week afternoon game at 3:30pm on Thursday March 8th against the Union County College Owls.
Mercyhurst North East will have a two-week period with no contests before hosting to Southern-Tier NY foes for back-to-back Region III tilts on Saturday March 24th at the Tompkins Panthers of Cortland, NY. and on Sunday March 25th at the Broome Hornets of Binghamton, NY. The tilt against Tompkins is slated in for 2pm, and the game time against the Hornets is at 1pm.
Wednesday March 28th at 7pm the Saints will have their first WNYAC conference game when the take on region rival Genesee Community College Cougars in Batavia, NY. The Cougars are coming off another final four season and will be a very strong test for the Saints. "They are skilled and are tough, we will have our hands full at their place." Stated Coach Miccio
Mohawk Valley a region III opponent from Central New York comes to Vineyard Field for a weekend afternoon tilt with the Saints. That game is scheduled for 2pm Saturday March 31st
The Saints will then have a week of preparation for when they host the Vikings of Hudson Valley from Albany, NY. That game will take place at Vineyard Field on Saturday April 7th with a 2pm start time, that is a region III contest. The next day the saints will host Ancilla College Chargers from Indiana at 1pm April 8th to complete the weekend.
WNYAC and Region III opponent Monroe Tribunes will host the Saints in Henrietta, NY for a 4pm match on Wednesday April 11th. On Sunday April 15th the saints will travel to region III foe Fingerlakes Community College Lakers for a pivotal matchup, faceoff is set for 1pm.
The Saints will wrap up their road schedule with a Region III opponent in the Jefferson Cannoneers on Saturday April 21st at 3pm. That game will take place at General Brown High School in the North Country.
The Saints conclude their regular season the next day on Sunday, April 22nd in at Vineyard field against the Herkimer Generals. That game is scheduled for a start time of 1:00pm.
The top six region teams will then make the Region III playoffs with the two last teams standing will become Region III champions and receive automatic-bids to the national tournament.
