Schenberg Scores First Collegiate Goal, Gives Saints 2-1 Win

Saints get the win against local rival Jamestown after a closely fought contest on sunny Vineyard Field this afternoon.

The saints began the brighter of the 2 sides looking to continue their good run of form from the Lakeland Invitational Tournament the previous weekend. Shousher and Aguirre had opportunities in the opening 5 minutes but were unable to test the Jayhawks goalkeeper.

The first remained tight as JCC began to come into the game, gaining good possession down the right side and creating a couple of chances only to fire wide of Craig Martins' goal.

The 2nd half saw the Jayhawks look to assert themselves on the game, finding space on a couple of occasions to open the scoring in the game.

The wasteful Jayhawks strikers were made to rue the missed chances, when a throw in from Nate Angelo (Harborcreek) was met by Matt Schenberg with a bullet headed into the bottom left corner of the net. The goal marks Schenberg's (Saegertown) 1st for the saints. 1-0

The game looked to be in saints control as the clock ticked down into the final 15 minutes. A number of referring decisions in the saints half gave the Jayhawks the momentum, managing to sneak one past Craig Martin into the far post. 1-1.

As overtime loomed the saints drove forward with Michael Lennox from midfield trying to conjure one more attempt on goal. That goal came in dramatic fashion with under5 minutes left to play. Lennox continued his fine season scoring his 7th from a free kick outside the 18 yard box. 2-1.

The game finished 2-1 with solid defensive performances and a number of positives for the saints to take into tomorrows game at Erie CC. We hope to see you all there, 3pm KO!
