Saints Soccer Drops Home Opener

Thursday Night, August 27thmarked the beginning of the Saint's Men's Soccer season. With their first Home game they faced a fast and physical Genesee Community College team that would make for a tough test. The Saints battled hard from the first whistle but it didn't take long before the GCC Cougars were able to get on the board. Solid performances from Nathan Angello at Center Back and Jared Buzzard at Defensive Center mid were a highlight for the team but the first half would end 6-0 in the Cougars favor.

 

With the second half, the saints came out with some resilience and resolve allowing only 2 other goals in the first 40 minutes. With the Saint's team being littered with injuries, many players were called upon to play in different positions and take on different roles and the second half showed that those players were up to the challenge. The final score line ended 9-0 for the Genesee Cougar's. It was a tough opener for the Mercyhurst Northeast Saint's, but the team is in good spirits leading into the their weekend tournament at Fingerlakes Community College.

 

The team will face Mohawk Valley Community College at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 29thand Fingerlakes Community College at 2:00 pm the following day, Sunday, August 30th.
