One Saturday, September 26th, 2015 the Mercyhurst North East Men's team hosted Monroe Community College in a NJCAA Region 3 matchup. After their loss to Erie Community College, earlier in the week, the Saints were looking to get on top of the game early. From the first whistle, the Saints did a great job of disrupting and slowing a very dynamic and mobile Monroe CC attack, allowing only one goal in the first 30 minutes. Monroe, however, would finish the half with a flurry of 3 goals to go into the break at 4-0.
The score line would not be a factor in the Saint's 2ndhalf effort, however, as they would come out determined to finish the game strong. Solid defending and great organization on both sides of the ball would keep the second half score line 2-1 in Monroe's Favor. Mercyhurst would create 3 or 4 more quality scoring chances within the half but wouldn't be able to find the net. The lone goal for the Saints' was a goal of the season contender from Sophomore, #23, Jared Buzzard. Buzzard picked up a loose ball about 35 yards out from goal and hit a solid strike that would dip over the Monroe Goalkeepers' head and nick the crossbar to bounce in for the goal. Although the scoreline did not show it, this was one of the best performances the Men's Saints have put together all season. They hope to take that momentum and tough play into their next match, when they travel to Mercyhurst, Erie Campus to take on the Merchurst University JV team on September 29th.
