The Mercyhurst North East Saints traveled to Erie campus again yesterday on Sunday, October 11thto take on the Mercyhurst University's' JV team in a rematch. Much like the first match up between the teams, the possession and chances were very much back and forth. Both teams battled and fought for the first 45 minutes creating a few open scoring opportunities, but the first half would end tied at 0-0. As the second half went on, The saints were threatening with a few good thru balls but some good saves and defending from the JV team kept the Saint's at zero. Finally with about 20 minutes left in the second half, North East got a break thru when Sophomore Zach Meadows was played in behind from a quality thru ball. Meadows took a touch inside before slotting the ball across the top of the box into Freshman Striker, #8, Barrington Smith, was waiting. He received the ball, beat the last defender at the top of the box before placing the ball back post to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The lead would only last about ten minutes or so when shaky defending from the Saints back line, and a bit of quality footwork from the Lakers player saw the tying goal get put away. The game would end with the score line 1-1. Both teams played a good, quality game, but the stalemate couldn't be broken the second time around.
The Saints are back on the Road this Wednesday, October 14th, when they travel to Penn State New Kensington.
