On a very hot and humid day, the Saints traveled to Cuyahoga CC for their 5th game of the season. The game started out frantic as the Saints were caught in possession within their own box only to see a clearance deflect off a Cuyahoga player and end up in the goal to put the Saints down 1-0 within the first 5 minutes. The Saints didn't give up the fight as they defended tough and did their best to contain Cuyahoga's dynamic attacking style. Mercyhurst North East worked a few scoring chances including a few direct free kicks within good scoring distant but couldn't find the target with the score ending 2-0 in favor of Cuyahoga after the first 45 minutes.
The second half would start off much better for the Saints as a quick change in formation allowed the Saints to see much more possession within the midfield and a lot more attacking chances going forward. The saints would give up a 3rd goal early on in the 2nd half but from that point they would go on the offensive creating chances and putting Cuyahoga under pressure. IN the 87th minute, the Saint's resilience and hard work paid off in the form of a penalty kick which was created by #2, Jaheed Loblack, taking on two players at the top of the box before being taken down by a Cuyahoga player. Loblack would convert the penalty for his 3rd goal of the season in as many games. #00 Goalkeeper, Jason Marczak, would make 14 saves on the day and defensive efforts from #12, Brandon Bessetti, #23, Trung Kitchener, and #3, Wilson Velasquez would keep Cuyahoga at only 3 goals after facing 28 shots from the Cuyahoga Attack.
The Saints have another week until they are back home at North East campus when they take on Jamestown CC on Wednesday, September 14th in a double header with the Lady Saints.
