The Saints traveled to Mercyhurst University, Erie Campus, to take on the MU JV team this Wednesday in their 4th match of the season. Coming off of a tough 3-0 loss to Erie Community College the previous week, the men's team was eager to get into the game from the first whistle. Both teams had chances in the first half, with the better chances coming from Erie campus. Sophomore Goalkeeper, Jason Marczak, would make a few spectacular saves in the first 45 minutes to keep Erie Campus scoreless at half time. The best chance in the first half for North East came from Freshman Striker, #22 Jared Spring, as he found himself in behind from a great ball from freshman midfielder, #17 Matt Jackson. Spring put a great strike on frame, but Erie campus' goalkeeper was able to keep the shot out.
At halftime, both teams were scoreless but the deadlock would be broken after a skirmish in the box saw the ball drop to the feet of a Mercyhurst JV player who would finish to put Erie campus up 1-0. North East would keep the pressure on, however, with a few good scoring chances coming from Freshman Striker, #10 Abdala Salah, and freshman winger, #3 Evan Purnell. The pressure wouldn't be enough though, as the final would end 1-0.
The Saints head into this weekend at 2-2 as they travel to Lakeland community college for the Lakeland Tournament. The Saints next home game will be a week from this Saturday, on September 16th when they host Westmoreland.
