After a long break between matches, the Mercyhurst North East men's soccer team were back in action this past Saturday , when they hosted Region rivals, Monroe Community College, during Mercyhurst North East's homecoming weekend.
Friends, Family, and Alumni were in attendance for the big match and despite the score line, both teams put on a great show for the crowd. During the early stages of the game, both teams had spells of possession but Monroe would see more of the ball. North East battled hard and pressed Monroe in their own half, but Monroe was able to find a kink in the armor and after good wide play, they were able to get the ball across the saints' box for a one touch finish to go up 1-0.
The Saints would continue to apply pressure and battle, but with 4 minutes left in the first half, Monroe would score the second and final goal of the game to go up 2-0. Although it was a hard fought game, the Saints were only able to put one shot on target. Sophomore Goalkeeper, #1 Jason Marczak, would end the game with 6 saves. The team is back in action this week with back to back games against Mercyhurst University (Erie Campus) and Cuyahoga CC, on October 3rd and 4th, respectively. The Saints finish off their week with a trip to Niagara CC, this coming Saturday, October 7th.
