Mercyhurst North East Men's Soccer team were back in action with a home game last night against Lorain County Community College. Following the Saints win this past weekend over Niagara, the men's team looked to make it two wins in a row at home during the Men's and Woman's Pink game, double header.
The game would get off to a slow start for the Saints as the first couple chances would come Lorains way after sloppy possession by the Saints in and around their own box. After North East settled into the game, they began to possess the ball and create good scoring chances. With about 12 minutes left in the first half, Freshman striker #11, Radzhan Lomidze, would open the scoring after great combination play down the left flank resulted in a great left footed finish. Freshman defender #7, Kaleb O'neill, would get the assist on Lomidze's goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead heading into half time.
The run of play, in the second half, would go to the Saints as they would create plenty of scoring opportunities. It wouldn't take long before Freshman Lomidze would find his second goal after a great run out of the back from sophomore and Captain Center back, #23 Andrew Heft. Hefts' assist would and Lomidze's second would put the Saints up 2-0. Not ten minutes later, Freshman Midfielder, #22 Jared Spring would get on the end of a cross from Freshman Midfielder, #6 Abdi Mganga, to put the Saints up 3-0. Not to be out done, Lomidze would complete his hat trick on the night in fantastic fashion as he would get on the end of a great cross from Freshman outside back, #15 Aaron Schwartz, and put the ball in the back of the net with a diving header at the back post. The Saints head into the Fall break with only 4 matches remaining and a record of 5-7-1. Their Next match will be on Tuesday October 17th when they travel with the woman's team to Genessee CC for a double header.
