Men's Soccer Lands 5 Players on All-Region Team

The Saint's season came to an end this past weekend after taking on Monroe Community College in the Region 3, NJCAA Division 1 championship. The Saint's fell to Monroe CC, 3-0, but it was a hard fought game on both sides.

With this final game, the Saints' would end their season with a record of 5-11-1. After the game, the all-region team was announced, and Mercyhurst North East would end up receiving five spots within both the all-region and WNYAC conference 1st team.  The Saints players that were selected are listed below with their accomplishments.

Sophomore Goalkeeper #1, Jason Marczak (captain)

  • All region team as a freshman and sophomore
  • Most saves in NJCAA division 1 : 2016 and 2017
  • Started and played every game in 2017 season
  • Recorded 2 shutouts in 2017
  • .802% save percentage
  • Tallied 2 assists

Sophomore Defender #23, Andrew Heft (captain)

  • Started and played in all 17 games in 2017
  • Scored 3 goals and tallied 3 assists to end the season with 9 points
  • Played Goalkeeper during a game in which he recorded 6 saves

Freshman Midfielder #17, Matthew Jackson

  • Started and played in 16 matches in 2017
  • Recorded 3 assists for 3 points on the season
  • .824% shot on goal percentage for the year

Freshman Striker #11, Radzhan Lomidze

  • Played in 14 matches, starting 12 of them in 2017
  • Scored 4 goals to finish with 8 points on the season
  • Had a 1.000% shot on goal percentage for the year

Freshman Midfielder #6, Abdi Mganga

  • Played in 15 matches, starting 14 of them in 2017
  • Had a goal and an assist for 3 points on the season
  • Scored the game winner in overtime against Niagara CC
