The Mercyhurst North east Saints' Men's soccer team won a thriller in overtime this past weekend as they hosted Niagara CC, on Saturday, October 6th. This win would make it three victories in a row for the Saints, but it wouldn't be an easy one, as the Saints would see themselves go up 2-0 early on with two great goals from Freshman midfielder, #21 Trent May. Soon after the Saints garnered a lead however, Niagara would bring the score level after two set piece free kicks would find the back of the net to see the game tied 2-2 at half time.
The saints would start the second half sharp, as they tested the Niagara defense and goalkeeper early, but couldn't find the back of the net. Niagara would score next after a missed clearance in the Saints box found its way to a Niagara CC player who smashed it into the back of the net to put them up 3-2. With about 5 minutes left, the Saints would get a free kick just outside Niagara's box, and #21, Trent May, would step up and place the direct kick in the near post to secure the tie, and finish off his hat trick.
The game would then go into overtime and after only about 5 minutes into the first overtime period, the Saints would find the winner after a great thru ball from freshman #23, Hector Corralles, would find freshman #11, Tilor Fuller, in stride, in behind the Niagara defensive line. Fuller was able to convert the break away to give the Saints the victory. That puts the Saints at 5-6-2 on the season with their next game coming up this weekend on Sunday, October 14th when they host Lakeland CC. Kick off is at 1 pm.
