Daniel Poe has been named the new head men’s soccer coach for the Mercyhurst North East Saints. Poe brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience that should help solidify the Saints as a perennial regional contender. “We are very fortunate to have found someone with Coach Poe’s playing and coaching experience to lead our men’s soccer program into the future. There is no doubt he will continue to build on the success that our program has had with not only his knowledge of the game, but his coaching style as well. I know he will be a great fit for out athletic department,” says MNE Director of Athletics, Brian Dewey.
A native to the D.C. area, Poe was heavily recruited out of high school and chose to become a member of the men’s soccer team at DI Clemson University. While at Clemson, Poe was a 4 year letterman and was named ACC player of the week during his 2006 campaign. Upon graduation, Poe had trials with Real MD of the USL and with the Baltimore Blast of the MISL.
Poe transitioned into coach in 2009 and has been the assistant women’s soccer coach with St.Mary’s College, assistant coach of the men’s soccer team at Binghamton University, had a short stint coaching within the New York Red Bulls organization, and most recently was the assistant women’s soccer coach at Penn State Behrend. He also is the youth technical director for the Erie Admirals and MSA soccer clubs.
Assistant Athletic Director, Jacob Hordych states, “I am very excited to watch Coach Poe on and off the field with his team. He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm and I couldn’t be happier to have a coach of his caliber take over the program.” Poe will begin his duties immediately. The men’s soccer team kicks off the season at home when they take on Genesee Community College on Thursday, August 27th.
