In a back and forth thrilling game, the Saints prevailed in extra innings Sunday in the nightcap of a doubleheader vs Onondaga.
The Saints were down 3-0 in the sixth with two outs and nobody on, before a surge of hits suddenly tied the game at 3.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lazers loaded the bases with no outs but Saints starter Kiersten Coho got a strikeout, a pop up, and another strikeout to get out of the jam.
After a scoreless seventh, with the international tie-breaker in effect, Mercyhurst scored one in the eighth but Onondaga answered with one in the bottom half to keep the game going.
In the ninth, Emily Foy started with a sac bunt and beat the play at first, she then stole second. Both runners would score to give the Saints a 6-4 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Onondaga scored once and had the tying run on third with one out but Coho got a shallow fly ball and strikeout to end the game.
Coho went all nine innings for the Saints to get the win. She was in control all game, allowing just one earned run and striking out 12.
