In what was supposed to be a tuneup for the playoffs this weekend, the Saints trip to Genesee Community College was anything but. With the threat of rain looming for game two, Mercyhurst made the trek to Genesee in hopes of getting in a game.
Saints pitcher Portia McBride, a day after throwing a no hitter vs nationally ranked Onondaga, was injured in pre game warmups. She attempted to pitch anyway but after three wild pitches that allowed two GCC runs, she was taken out of the game.
The Cougars tacked on two more runs, only one earned to take a 4-1 lead. Mercyhurst scored in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2 but the predicted rain came and the game was stopped during the downpour. When the rained cleared, the field was unplayable and Saints headed back home.
