The Mercyhurst North East Softball team had six players named to the all WNYAC team this week. The Saints recently finished their season with a record of 29-14.
Five Saints headlined the all WNYAC team First Team with, Saints ace pitcher Portia McBride leading the way. McBride (McKeesport, PA) was named as a pitcher. McBride finished the year with a record of 19-5 and an ERA of 1.89. She pitched 160 innings and struck out 197.
Julia Lang was named to the first team as an outfielder. Lang (Greensburg, PA) led the Saints in hitting with a .441 batting average. She also hit seven home runs and drove home 36 runs. Lang also led the Saints in runs scored with 48.
Lauren Nickerson was named to the first team as well. The Saints catcher handled McBride all year long. Nickerson (Bemus Point, N.Y.) led the Saints with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs. She had a .333 batting average and scored 33 runs.
Emily Foy also got first team honors. The Saints shortstop, from Frewsburg, N.Y., hit .372 on the season with five home runs. She led the Saints with 12 doubles and scored 36 runs.
Rounding out first team selections for the Saints was first baseman Kim Burdett (New Castle, PA). Burdett hit .361 with five home runs for MNE. She led the Saints with 17 walks, while hitting five home runs and nine doubles.
Taylor Wilson was a second team selection for the Saints, the catcher from Spencer, NC hit .293 for the Saints and was third on the team with 30 RBIs.
