A few costly miscues cost the Saints as they lost to Jackson College on opening day in Clermont, FL Friday afternoon.
The Saints came out swinging, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Mackenzie Hawley was hit by the first pitch of the game, before Aren Schwab singled up the middle. Emily Foy then singled home Hawley and Schwab scored on a groundout. After a walk, Hannah Larkin belted a two run double to right to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.
Despite getting some hard hit balls, the Saints would not be able to push another run across the rest of the game.
Jackson took advantage of some mistakes to score their first five runs and then put the Saints away late.
Mercyhurst is now 1-1 on the season and will be back in action Saturday morning.
