Saints Cant Hold Off Oakland

For the second time in one day, the Saints had a lead early but could not hold on as they fell to Oakland Community College.

Things were looking good early on, as Emily Foy tripled home a run and then scored on a ground ball by Kim Burdett.

In the second, Hannah Larking doubled and then scored on a sharp single to left by Miranda Marucci. Marucci then raced home to score on a ground out two batters later.

Starter Grace Edwards was seemingly in control into the 3rd inning, as she retired the first two batters. Then a bloop single, bunt hit, and walk loaded the bases and the next batter belted a grand slam to left to tie the game. The next batter singled and Head Coach Brian Dewey lifted Edwards. An error and wild pitch allowed the go ahead run to score.

Oakland added runs in the fifth and seventh to go ahead 7-4. Mercyhurst rallied in the bottom of the seventh as the first two batters reached. Kim Burdett singled home a run and gave the Saints the tying run on first base but a fly out ended the game.

Mercyhurst falls to 4-7 on the season and will be back in action Friday evening.
