Coho Lifts Saints to Snap Streak

The Saints got just what they needed Saturday afternoon, stellar pitching and some clutch offense late as they beat Lincoln 6- 3 in extra innings.

Saints starter Kiersten Coho was cruising along, until she allowed a solo home run in the fourth inning. Mercyhurst left several runners on base throughout the game until they broke free in the sixth.

Kaelyn Shea and Emily Foy both singled to start the inning. After a sac bunt by Kim Burdett, Sam Mott hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

The game went into the eighth inning with the same score, and the international tie-breaker rule was put into play, allowing the teams to start with a runner on 2nd.

Mercyhurst scored when Emily Foy stole second and the ball got away from the fielder, allowing Grace Edwards to race home. In the bottom of the eighth, Lincoln tied the game with a two out, two strike single to center.

In the ninth, Mackenzie Hawley put down a bunt and Burdett beat the attempt at third. Hawley alertly raced to second on the play. After an intentional walk, Taylor Wilson drew a walk to score a run. Heather Mueller then hit a deep line drive that was caught and Hawley scored on the tag up. Edwards then drilled a line drive to right that scored two runs to put the Saints in control.

Coho allowed one hit in the bottom half to close out her complete game victory. Coho was stellar in her effort, scattering nine hits in nine innings, striking out seven while not issuing a single walk.

The Saints will play one final game in Florida, against Delta Community College at 1pm on Sunday.
