The Saints swept a double header today against conference foe Erie Community College. With the wins, the Saints have now won seven in a row.
The Saints and Kats played scoreless for two and a half scoreless innings, until the Saints finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Mackenzie Hawley singled down the left field line and ECC misplayed the cutoff, allowing Hawley to run all the way to third. After Kaelyn Shea walked, the Saints executed a double steal to make it 1-0.
Erie tied the game in the fourth but the Saints broke open the game in the bottom of the fifth with a five run inning. Several Saints singled as Mercyhurst sent nine batters to the plate to make it 6-1.
Hawley led the Saints with two hits and three runs scored. She also stole two bases and was hit with a pitch.
Kiersten Coho went all seven innings to earn the win. She struck out 12 while scattering six hits and the only run scored was unearned.
In the second inning, Grace Edwards hit a two run homer to left to increase the Saints lead.
Mott was also the winning pitcher, going four innings and striking out five. She was relieved by Lea Thiesen, who threw two scoreless innings and only allowed one hit.
Mercyhurst improves to 24-13 on the year and will be on the road Wednesday at Cuyahoga Community College.
