After falling to Morris on Saturday in the first round of the District K Tournament, Mercyhurst needed to beat the Titans Sunday morning to force a winner take all game in Rhode Island.
Mercyhurst took care of business in dramatic fashion in the 10am to give themselves a shot later in the day.
Morris, who scored 10 runs against the Saints on Saturday, struck first when they got two hits in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mercyhurst tied the game in the second inning when Kiersten Coho singled, moved to second on a sac bunt, and scored on a single by Grace Edwards.
In the top of the third, Morris scored two more runs and was on the verge of breaking the game wide open with two runners on when Coho snagged a hard grounder up the middle to keep the score 3-1.
In the fourth, Edwards once again was up in a key situation. This time the bases were loaded with one out when Edwards ripped a single to right. Two runs scored on the play and when Edwards advanced to second on the throw home, the Morris catcher tried to get her at second. Meanwhile, Heather Mueller broke from third and just beat the return throw to the plate to make it 4-3 Saints.
The score would remain that way into the seventh, when Mercyhurst would have two outs and nobody on and seemed in position to end the game. However, Morris put the tying run on with a single. A pinch runner then stole second before a two out hit to right tied the game at 4-4.
Coho started the bottom of the seventh with a sharp single to left and Kim Burdett put down her second perfect sac bunt of the game. Morris when walked Sam Mott but a passed ball allowed the runners to advance.
Heather Mueller then hit a hard grounder to third. The Morris third-baseman thought about tagging Coho but was unable to reach her as Coho retreated to the bag. She then was forced to rush her throw to first and the ball was in the dirt, and Coho broke for the plate and scored easily when the ball bounced away.
The Saints walk off win forced the two teams to play a deciding game.
Edwards finished the game with three hits and three RBIs to lead the Saints bats.
Coho limited the Titans to just four runs to get her complete game victory.
