Saints Season Comes to an End at Nationals

Season Ends At National Tournament

The Saints remarkable season came to an end Thursday afternoon after an 8-5 loss to Waubonsee Community College at the National Tournament.

The Chiefs scored three runs in the first and added two more in the second to take control of the game. Lei Guthrie than entered in relief and kept the Chiefs off the bases for the next few innings but the Saints couldn't get anything going. The lead was later extended to 7-0 before the Saints got it going.

Kaylee Brooks and Heather Mueller started the fifth with back to back doubles to start a Saints rally. Later Ashlyn Slusher hit a two run single to pull the Saints to 7-3.

After a Waubonsee run in the sixth, the Saints pulled even closer when Mackenzie Hawley doubled home Megan Minihane and Brooks scored on an errant pickoff attempt.

That would be as close as the Saints would get as the final score was 8-5.

Mercyhurst closes the 2017 season with a 42-10 record, one of the best in the programs history. The Saints won the WNYAC Conference, the Regional Championship, and the District Championship to cap an amazing run to the World Series.
