Coming off a 42-10 season, with Regional and District Championships, the Saints were honored as four players were named to the NFCA All East Region Team Tuesday afternoon. The East Region is one of three regions in the country, including all division 2 junior colleges ranging from Delaware, Rhode Island, all the way to Michigan.
Mackenzie Hawley (Cochranton, PA) was named to the infield as the Saints leadoff batter and shortstop finished with a .439 batting average and led the Saints with 63 runs, six triples, and 27 steals (school record). Hawley also hit two home runs and 11 doubles.
Ashlyn Slusher was picked as a utility player on the team. Slusher (Bristolville, OH) was the Saints leading hitter, while also pitching for MNE. Slusher led the Saints with a .500 batting average and 72 hits. She added 7 homers and 55 RBIs at the dish for the Saints. As a pitcher, she went 12-2 with a 3.32 ERA for the Saints.
Aren Schwab, a sophomore from Lockport, NY, hit .387 while patrolling centerfield for the Saints all season. Schwab finished the year with 40 RBIs and scored 35 runs to go along with 16 doubles and eight steals. She made just one error all season in the outfield and contributed four assists.
Lei Guthrie, a freshman from New Salem, PA was named to the team as a pitcher. Guthrie led the staff in innings with 140, strikeouts with 175, and wins with 18. Guthrie had a team low ERA of 2.16 while striking out more than 8 batters per game. She was also a force at the plate, leading the Saints with 12 home runs and 56 RBIs to go along with a .431 batting average.
All four players are now eligible for the NFCA All American team, which will be selected on June 7th and consist of the All Region players from the East, South, and Mid-West.
