In a wild game, the Saints got a much needed win Sunday to take the Regional series vs Orange over the weekend.
After both teams won a game by one run on Saturday, this game looked like an runaway for the Saints early. Mercyhurst scored four runs to get the game started, highlighted by a first inning homer by Lei Guthrie. The Saints scored four more in the second, with another two run homer by Guthrie to stretch the lead to 8-0. After 3, the Saints extened the lead to 11-0 and seemed ready to end the game early.
Orange had other plans however, as the Colts scored four runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth to make it a game.
The Saints came up clutch in the sixth, scoring three runs on two out hits by Hannah Davis, Lea Munnell, and Riplee Burkhart to make it 14-6. The Colts would not go away, scoring seven more runs in the sixth.
Guthrie entered the game to pitch, and got the Saints out of the inning with a strikeout. She then got all three outs in the seventh to earn a save for the game.
With the win, the Saints have a winning record for the first time this season at 14-13. MNE will be back in action Monday at home vs Notre Dame of Ohio.
