Johnston's Big Day Lifts Saints

Mercyhurst North East - 15
Genesee CC - 4

Alyssa Johnston went 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs to lead the Saints past the Cougars in a WNYAC action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Saints pounded out 24 hits, including five doubles as they scored a road victory. The game was tied 4-4 going into the 5th inning, but Mercyhurst scored 11 runs in their last three at-bats.

Justine Dean also had a big day at the plate, getting four hits, including a double. Lea Munnell and Riplee Burkhart both had three hits each for the Saints, while Lei Guthrie, Tori Harding, and Anna Swartout all had two for the winners.

Dean was also the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, striking out seven, while allowing just one earned run.

Mercyhurst North East - 14
Genesee CC - 2

It may have been cold at Genesee, but the Saints bats were hot as they finished the doubleheader with 42 hits to complete the sweep with GCC.

The Saints scored all 14 of their runs in their first three at-bats to put the game away early.

That would be plenty of support for Saints starter Tori Harding. Harding went all five innings, allowing just four hits and no earned runs to pick up the win in her best outing of the season.

Harding also was the leading hitter for the Saints, getting three hits and four RBIs. Hannah Davis, Wilmari Guzman, Justine Dean, Ayla Bragg and Lea Munnell all had two hits each for MNE.
