Saints Head to Super Regional

Saints Head to Super Regional

The MNE Softball team has concluded their regular season and will travel to Randolph, NJ this Saturday (May 11) and Sunday (May 12) for the Super Regional playoff, squaring off against the County College of Morris.

The Saints finished the regular season with a superb record of 40-15. The Saints also hit .344 as a team, while cranking 44 homeruns. MNE will look to extend their season as they prepare for their upcoming opponent.

When asked about the upcoming playoff, Head Coach Brian Dewey commented:

"We are as ready as we are going to be, having played 55 games so far this year. I think both teams have some similarities in the fact we have a lot of sophomores who expect to win. Both of us have been waiting to get back to this point after losing to Mercer a year ago. And both teams have some really good freshman to make our teams better."

Wilmari Guzman, Alyssa Johnson, and Tori Harding are among the MNE sophomores who have provided a spark to the squad. Guzman posts a .399 batting average and has 22 doubles on the year. Johnson is red hot hitting .404, and Tori Harding has been solid as well, hitting .381 with 10 homeruns.

Dewey's recruiting class has also stuffed the stat sheet. Sierra Reid leads the team with a .421 batting average, while Asja Johnson posts a .392 average with 13 homeruns and 15 doubles. Jodi Frontino and Cheyenne Hindman have also been huge for the Saints, both hitting just shy of .400, while providing power and consistency at the plate.

Defensively, Hindman has been the MNE workhorse from within the circle throughout the regular season, posting a 19-4 record, while tallying 127 strikeouts.

With a productive regular season in the books, the Saints are focusing on playing their best ball moving forward. Upon departure, Coach Dewey commented:

We are ready for a tough series against Morris. It's important we play good defense and not give anything away. They play outstanding defense and have two tough pitchers so they are hard to score on, so I believe the key will be quality at bats and good base running.

The first game of the Super Regional is scheduled for Friday at 12:00PM.
