(1/22/15) On thursday evening the women's basketball team hosted the Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College. The Saints have been hot in recent play and were looking to stay undefeated in WNYAC play.
In the first half, the Saints struggled, shooting under 30% from the field. The Jayhawks capitalized on it and built an early first half lead, 7 points being the largest lead by the Jayhawks. The Saints would keep within striking distance as the halftime score ended with the Saints trailing 24-29.
As the second half got underway, the Saints rallied like they typically do in the second half. Their tough defense and strong play inside helped them take the lead. the Saints outscored JCC in the paint 24-8, and more impressively capitalized off turnovers by outscoring the Jayhawks 27-13 in points off turnovers. The tight defense helped the Saints build a 10 point lead late in the game, which proved enough to give them the win 58-49.
Individual highlights from the game include Brea Forney with a game high 19 points, while Brieanna Luna chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Kashawnna Sampson added a stellar overall game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.
The Saints are back in action next Thursday as they travel to Erie Community College.
