The women's basketball team traveled to Monroe Community College this past weekend to compete in the Region Tournament. The Saints were the defending champions after winning the region last year and earned themselves a spot in the national tournament. Before they could try to replicate that, they had to go through Jamestown CC in the region semi finals on Saturday afternoon.
In the semi finals game, MNE and JCC had previously split the two games during the regular season, each team winning on their home court. During their third and final match-up, the Saints and Jayhawks showed how even they were. The halftime score was 23-23 with each team almost identical in every category. It was the Saints, who game after game in the season, proved they were a second half team and showed it by outscoring JCC 34-29 in the second to come out with the 57-52 win, and a shot at a region titled.
One Sunday, the Saints met the Tribunes of Monroe in the championship game, with the winner headed to nationals. From the get go, the Tribunes proved to be the better of the two teams and took a first half 52-20 lead. The Saints would rally in the second like they always do, but it just wanted enough to overthrow the Tribunes as MCC would go on to win the game 89-49, making the Saints the Region III Runners-up.
As the season came to a close, the All-Region team was announced that weekend and the Saints were proud to have three players on that team. Jalin Steel was selected to the All-Region 1st team, while Brea Forney was recognized to the All-Region 2nd team, and Kashwanna Sampson was named All-Region 3rd team.
