Amy Senefelder has been hired as the new head women's basketball coach for the Mercyhurst North East Saints. Senefelder takes over for the Saints former head coach Chenara Wilson. Senefelder brings over 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to the women's basketball program. Coach Senefelder began her coaching career as a graduate assistant for Franklin Pierce University 2006-2008. During her two years on the coaching staff, she helped lead FPU to their first ever appearance into the Elite 8 in NCAA DII women's basketball national tournament. She also had the distinct privilege to coach a current Olympian and WNBA drafted, Johanna Leedham. After Franklin Pierce, Senefelder held the positions of Assistant Coach with Ancillia College, Muskingum University and the University of Alaska Fairbanks before coming to Mercyhurst North East. "We are very excited to have a coach with so much collegiate coaching experience. We have no doubt that Coach Senefelder will be able to build upon an already successful women's basketball program," says MNE director of athletics Brian Dewey.
Before Senefelder's coaching career began, she was a 4 year standout for NCAA DIII Trine University in Indiana. A native of Knox, Indiana, Senefelder has enjoyed the transition to PA and is excited to take on the challenge of coaching the women's basketball team. "I am very excited and humbled for the opportunity to take a successful program and build on it. The reputation of the school and the program are top notch. It's going to be an exciting time for Saints basketball," says head Coach Amy Senefelder.
The Saints tip off the season on November 8th, when they travel to Owens Community College to take part in their Tip Off Tournament.
