The women's basketball team hosted the Kats of Erie Community College on Thursday evening in Liguori Fieldhouse. From the opening tip, the Saints hopped out to a lead and didn't look back as they ended the first quarter up 20-11.
The Saints would give the Kats back a couple points in the second quarter but held on to a 31-27 lead at halftime.
When the Saints came out of the locker room to start the 3rd quarter, it was all Lady Saints as they outscored the Kats 22-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 53-35 going into the final quarter.
The Saints would let their guard down a little, which was enough for the Kats to take advantage and go on a 22-6 run through the fourth. With the Saints up 59-57 with under 30 seconds to play, ECC had possession and got 3 solid shots off to either tie or win the game, but with each shot being highly contested the Saints held on to the final buzzer for the 59-57 win.
All five starters for the Saints scored in double digits and Kayla Pound led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Kym Braine chipped in with 13 points and 9 rebounds while Megan McKinney had 11 of her own. The Dixon sisters, Deja and Jaida each tallied 10 points.
With the win, the Saints are now 4-9 and are back in action this weekend as they travel to Monroe Community College to take on the Tribunes.
