Saints Honor Recruit Akyra Murray Before Game Against Pitt Titusville

On Thursday evening, the Saints hosted Pit Titusville in a non conference match. Before the game, the Saints took the opportunity to honor, and remember Akyra Murray, a recruit who signed a letter of intent to play for the Saints this season, but her life was tragically cut short in the Orlando, FL shooting this past summer at the Pulse Nightclub.

Akyra's family was on hand for the game in which they were presented with what would have been Akyra's jersey with the Saints. "It's a privilege to have my daughter's name and legacy honored this way,'' Akyra's mother Natalie Murray said. "She never attended the college, but everyone has shown so much love and support".

The theme of the evening was "Play for Peace". "The message of this event is just to put the weapons down, and to have love, peace and harmony throughout the country,'' Natalie Murray said. "We need to stop the violence.''

Both the men's and women's teams, and all in attendence wore light blue shirts that doned the phrase "Play for Peace".

The MNE women's basketball team and Coach Senefelder would like to send a special "thank you" to all those involved in helping to put together the "Play for Peace" event this evening and helping us keep Akyra's legacy alive. We will be forever be thankful for the strong Mercyhurst University community."
