Mashea Williams has been hired as the new Head Women's Basketball Coach for the Mercyhurst North East Saints. Williams, an Erie native, was a 2 time PA State Champion for Mercyhurst Prep. After high school, Williams played 4 years for the Nitany Lions at Penn state University and captained the team from her sophomore year on. Upon graduation from PSU, Williams played professional basketball in Germany before returning back home to Erie, PA.
Williams brings with her an outstanding career as a player, but she also been involved as a coach at the youth level and high school level, along with coaching numerous camps and clinics throughout the state. "I feel extremely lucky to have an opportunity to bring someone like Mashea onto our staff to lead our women's basketball program," says Saints Director of Athletics Brian Dewey. "Losing our former coach a few days after the first practice was challenging but we had a host of great candidates. Mashea's background and connections stood out and I have no doubt she will do a great job for basketball program." Williams goes on to say, "I am very excited about being named the Head Women's basketball coach at Mercyhurst NE. It has always been a dream of mine to coach at the collegiate level. I look forward to helping the student athlete's development academically, athletically and to provide a positive impact on the community.
Mashea will take over the team immediately from women's basketball assistant coach Eric Miccio who has helped the Saints to a 1-0 start with a win over Pitt-Titusville in the season opener.
