Six Saints Headed to Nationals, Jamar Henry Wins District Title

(Springfield, Ma.) This past weekend, the Saints wrestling team traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to compete in the NJCAA Eastern District 1 Tournament. With a strong performance on Sunday, the Saints qualified 6 individuals for the NJCAA National Wrestling tournament held on February 27-28th in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Jamar Henry (Greenville, Pa) captured the District title at 197 lbs.  Henry was dominant through his matches pinning both opponents he faced. 

Also qualifying for nationals were District Runner-ups 174lber Alex Svetz, heavyweight Tracey Green as well as third place finishers Cole Shirey (165) and Kevin Wesolowski (157).  Although 133lber Detric McCoy did not finish in the top 3 he received a wild card bid to the national tournament as voted on by the district coaches.

In the team race the Saints (97.5) finished 3rdbehind Springfield Tech (113.5) and Darton College (133).  "I was happy with our performance today" Coach Cooper said " We finished higher then any of the other teams in our region and qualified the kids that should be at the national tournament.  It was good to see Jamar back on the mat and he didn't look like he's missed a beat"
