W.I.N.S: Aaron Cooper

This weeks W.I.N.S. is with our Head Wrestling Coach Aaron Cooper. We took some time to find out a little bit more about Coach Coopers experience with the Saints wrestling squad, some hobbies and favorite things as well as find out about his adventures and travels.


What is your wrestling background?

"I started wrestling in 3rd grade with my hometown youth club.  We had strong wrestling tradition in my area and I continued it through high school, and then for 5 more years at Ohio University."


When did you start coaching? When did you start coaching at MNE?

 "I started coaching right out of college in 2000 for Buckeye High School.  I spent 3 years there and then 3 years at Southwestern Oregon CC.  My first season here at MNE was 2006-2007."


What is your best MNE Wrestling memory?

"Its hard to pick one but I'll go with 2008 coming from behind in the finals to win the region title for title for the first time in school history."


The wrestling team has been to nationals for years now, you're a region powerhouse, what do you dedicate that continued level of success to? 

"Preperation, attitude,  and recruiting." 


What is your favorite aspect of coaching at MNE?

"Watching kids walk across the stage at graduation."


What is the most important lesson you have learned from coaching at MNE? What is the most important lesson you have taught coaching at MNE?

 "If you want something done or have a goal you need to accomplish it all starts with you, don't expect someone to do it for you.  -* Wrestling and life are very similar in that you get out of it what you put in."


What are your favorite professional sport teams?

 "I am a Cleveland fan through and through.  Indians, Browns, and the Cavs."


Who is your all-time favorite athlete?

 "Any one on the 1995 Cleveland Indians"


 If you could be any athlete for a day, who would you be and why? 

 "The Chosen One" King James



What is your all-time favorite music band? 



What is your all-time favorite movie?

 "Vision Quest"


If you could go to lunch with any person, living or dead, real or fiction, who would it be and why?!"

 "George Washington  I am a big history guy and love the USA."


It's been said you are an avid reader, what is the last book you read? What is the best book you've read?

 "I do read a lot,  the last book I read was "The Martian" by Andy Weir and my favorite is "Living with the Dead" by Rock Scully"


What is the best place you have ever visited?

 "Machu Picchu, Peru"


What is the craziest/most fun thing you have ever done?

 "Rode by myself a motorcycle from Cleveland, Ohio to New Orleans,  to Coos Bay, Oregon"


If you weren't coaching right now, what profession do you see yourself doing?



If you found a magic bottle that contained a genie, what would be you three wishes?

 "Perfect Weather, World Peace and some athletic ability for Coach Bertolini"


What is the best advice you have ever been given?

 "It's easy but it aint easy"


If there was a movie based on your life, who would play you?

 "Probably Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, or Ewan McGregor"
