Saints Win District Title, 9 Qualify for National Championships

(Jamestown, NY) The Saints Wrestling team defeated 4 other schools this past weekend to claim the District I Championships. In doing so, they also qualified 9 wrestlers for the NJCAA National Championships.

Scoring 132 combined team points, the Saints edged Niagara County Community College (129.5), Springfield Tech (110.5), Jamestown Community College (44) and Spartansburg Methodist College (28).

To earn the team win, the Saints had all 10 wrestlers place in the top three at their respected weight class.

125 - Colt Kollock placed 2nd

133 - Detric McCoy placed 2nd

141 - Mason Bryne placed 3rd

149 - Kevin Wesolowski placed 3rd

157 - Brandon Ingram placed 2nd

165 - Sam Colebert placed 1st

174 - Bryant Vannoy placed 2nd

184 - Garrett Smead placed 2nd

197 - Tyler Mattison placed 1st

285 - Terrance Reed placed 3rd

"This was a total team effort", says Head Coach Aaron Coop. "We scored a lot of bonus points (pins and tech falls) and that was the difference." This marks the 3rd time the Saints have won the District Championship (2008,2011 and 2016).

Kollock, McCoy, Bryne, Wesolowski, Ingram, Colebert, Vannoy, Smead and Mattison all qualfied for the NJCAA National Championships that take place February 26-27 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
