(Council Bluffs, Iowa) The Saints wrestling team traveled to Iowa this weekend to compete in the NJCAA Wrestling National Championships. The Saints had 9 wrestlers total, one in each weight class except for heavyweight.
As a team, the Saints finished 18th place overall. " Its an extremely touch tournament", says Head Coach Aaron Cooper. "You have to be on your A game at all times. I am very proud of this team."
Sam Colebert placed the highest among the Saints as he finished the tournament in 4th place, which was good enough for an All-American honor. Detric McCoy was also named All-American as he placed 7th at 133. Tyler Mattison also had a great tournament at 197, but lost in the round to place in the top 8. "Both Detric and Sam were focused this weekend and Tyler Mattison was right there with them", says Cooper.
The remainder of the team had very tough draws and lost in very close, hard fought matches. "A district championship, 2 All-Americans and a top 20 team finish is a solid year for the program," says Cooper.
Congratulations to the Saints Wrestling team, the coaching staff and the individuals for a successful 2015-2016 season.
